Artificial Intelligence and Us" (March 12, 2025)
Artificial
Intelligence or “AI” began with myths of artificial beings possessing
intelligence or consciousness. Research early in the 20th century led to the
invention of the programmable digital computer, inspiring scientists to the
possibilities of building an “electronic brain”.
Today, AI
can be felt everywhere, changing how we live, love, work, shop and entertain
ourselves.
Presenting
today is Dr. Hei-Chi Chan, UIS associate professor of mathematical sciences and
philosophy, and Co-founder of the university’s AI Campus Learning
Community.
Dr. Chan
partnered with Dr. Neetu Singh to create an Artificial Intelligence campus
learning community which has the goal of engaging, educating, and equipping the
university community on the application and implication of AI tools and
techniques.
One of the
primary foci is to provide learning opportunities for students, creating more
access for them to learn and integrate AI tools and techniques, giving them an
edge as they enter a workforce that is rapidly transformed by generative AI.
Today, Dr.
Chan will explore Human-AI Interaction, ethical considerations and what the
future holds for humanity.
