In October 2022, the United Nations reported that the carbon reduction commitments
made by governments globally are still “woefully inadequate.” We are not on track to
keep global temperatures beneath the key threshold of 1.5 degrees C that scientists argue
is necessary to protect the health and integrity of earth’s systems. We need to make big
changes fast, but how can we do this? What pathways exist for transitioning away from
fossil fuels? How will a green energy transition impact national security, the economy, our everyday lives?
An expert on the intersections of energy, climate policy, and national security will help us
understand what is at stake in this transition and how we can begin to make profound
changes in energy policy and practice. This presentation will help us understand how US
energy policy shapes foreign relations and international economic trends and how we can
play a role in reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
